The IRU stages this seminar in Geneva (CICG, 17 Rue de Varembé) on 3 November 2010, on the Rotterdam Rules, the planned EU Single Transport Document and their impact on the use of the UN CMR Convention.
Attendance is expected from legal experts, lawyers as well as from transport operators, forwarders, government representatives and other interested parties.
Carine Rathier, IRU Head – Legal Affairs, comments “The lack of uniform rules regulating the liability of the carrier makes it very difficult for transport operators to properly estimate the risks involved in multimodal transport operations. In addition to the CMR Convention of direct relevance for road freight transport, UNCITRAL’s creation of the Rotterdam Rules, to date signed by 21 States, and the European Commission’s announced intention to create a Single Transport Document make the situation even more complex. This one-day seminar will focus on the content of the Rotterdam Rules and its and the Single Transport Document’s effects on the road transport industry, as well as the challenges faced by road transport operators upon their entry into force, in particular regarding the use of the CMR Consignment Note.”
